This particular machine was given to me by a former co-worker in completely dead state. I was about ready to strip it down for parts as I thought the motherboard had failed. However, in desperation I popped in a single 1 GB RAM module and to my surprise it came up working! I ended up buying a new 500GB WD hard drive for it (which eventually wound up in the T500), and put it into use as a portable computer to replace my old T61. Unfortunately the battery took a nose-dive off a cliff and no longer works enough to make it useful, but I still have it around as a computer to use for web browsing when the T500 is doing other work.
I have plans to replace this system. Something has happened recently that causes the CPU temperature to approach 90 degrees when doing even minimal work, which should not be happening. It has also triggered its thermal protection a few times.
